La Valle Gesso
“La Valle Gesso” is a valley in the Maritime Alps, characterized by the vast basin of the Gesso stream, largely shaped by the action of the glaciers. This characteristic makes it a unique valley. Rich in charm and nature, it can be experienced all year round by offering various sports activities ranging from hiking, mountain biking (including recent E-bikes), road bikes and various winter sports.
In Valle Gesso there are the highest peaks of the Maritime Alps, or the two peaks of Monte Argentera (Cima Sud, 3297 m, Cima Nord, 3286 m). Its territory, entirely included in the province of Cuneo, is divided between the Municipalities of Entracque, Roaschia, Valdieri and Roccavione. At the bottom of the valley, meek and quiet contrasts with the wild landscape rich in contrasts, with steep walls, wide pastures, lakes set among the rocks and small stubborn glaciers, the most southerly of the Alps.
Inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the protohistoric necropolis of Valdieri, the Gesso Valley was a hunting ground reserved for the Kings of the House of Savoy while today they are a naturalistic paradise open to all, where chamois and ibex can live undisturbed. “La Valle” is part of the territory of the Maritime Alps and is famous for being territory of… Wolf!
